Why To Get Sober While You’re Young

what-is-alcohol-infographicEven if you’re not an alcoholic, chill out with the drinking. It’s not a competitive sport. You aren’t cooler than someone else because you can pound down that six-pack without exorcist-style vomiting (until later, because you know it’s coming up at some point). Have you ever seen someone totally wasted? It’s not cool, sexy, or impressive. It’s actually pretty annoying, obnoxious, and exhausting to be around. Nobody likes that dude or chick that can’t seem to party along with everyone else. They are the ones that party so hard that it makes everyone else’s drunkenness look pretty sobering. So, why bother drinking to excess anyway? In fact, why not just get sober, even if you aren’t an alcoholic?

Things Alcohol Does To Your Body That Sucks

We need to be more aware of what we are putting into our bodies in general. Have you ever seen what a cola does to your body? If not, you must check it out here: What Happens One Hour After Drinking A Can Of Coke (infographic).

So, if just one can of soda is a nightmare to your body, can you imagine what alcohol – a toxin that can become poisonous to the human body – does? Even if you are not drinking in excess, why would you want to put something into your body that you don’t benefit from? Many of us work really hard to groom our outer appearances before we even head out for the night. Why junk it up by putting toxins into our system? It doesn’t really make sense to put all that effort into looking fab, just to destroy ourselves from the inside out. Because, let’s be real – after numerous days and nights of heavy drinking, it eventually starts showing on the outside, too. And FYI -it can start to show early as your 20’s.

If you want an in-depth look at what alcohol actually does to our system, then totally check this out: The Effects Of Alcohol On The Body.

Believe me when I say it does nothing beneficial for you, whatsoever. In fact, alcohol can completely deny you of some of life’s best experiences because you’re too drunk to remember. Also, those pesky little hangovers are your body’s way of telling you it’s not only dehydrated, but it’s damaged and struggling to repair itself. When we really think about why we get hangovers from alcohol, it’s pretty freaking scary.

Why Bother Drinking?

Personally, I don’t see the point in drinking alcohol to get drunk in the first place. Well, let me rephrase that, I don’t see the point in drinking alcohol to get drunk if you are not an alcoholic or don’t want to be one. Every time you drink to excess, you not only risk your short-term and long-term health, but you risk becoming an alcoholic. Alcoholics drink essentially because they like the effects produced by alcohol, but after some time chasing that grand buzz, they become highly addicted to it. So, if you are not competing to become an alcoholic, I say why bother. Lay off the heavy drinking, or even drinking at all. The benefits of being healthy and sober will always outweigh the benefits of a drunken night.

Get Sober

If you think that alcoholism only happens to those who have been drinking for several years – WRONG. Alcoholism can develop at any age and only after a few short periods of drinking, too. If you’re sitting there now, realizing that when you stop drinking you can’t stay stopped for long, you may have a problem with alcohol. The best way to combat alcoholism is to treat it.
