Powdered Alcohol Approval Still Pending Based On New Labels

Palcohol (powdered alcohol) gained some popularity across the nation when the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) had approved it earlier this month.  Recently the TTB retracted its approval over the powdered alcohol substance, which included vodka and rum varieties. But before relief spreads through the masses of individuals who see the dangers in introducing alcohol to consumers in a powder form, it appears the rescinded approval might have just been a simple labeling error. Meaning, once the label has been corrected, approval will likely be reinstated. Lipsmark, Palcohol’s parent company, stated that, “there seemed to be a discrepancy on our fill level, how much powder is in the bag.” Lipsmark will be fixing this issue and resubmitting Palcohol for approval.

The Dangers Of Powdered Alcohol

Although the rumor for the recent disapproval by the TTB was said to be based on labeling errors, other speculations are that lawmakers want more information on powdered alcohol before it hits the shelves. Either way, it appears that this small win for alcohol abuse advocates might be short lived if the approval process goes through in the future.

What is more frightening about powdered alcohol is the amount of potential alcohol poisoning deaths that will surely come as a result of over consumption and improper use. The U.S. already has a problem with underage drinking, alcoholism, DUIs, and other alcohol related illnesses; this will just add to the problem. After this product hits the market, how many teens are we going to see getting sick from sneaking powdered alcohol into their drinks at school, concerts, or even their parent’s parities? The makers of Palcohol have already acknoledged that the product can be snorted, causing an instant, dangerous drunk effect. Simply warning consumers of all ages about the dangers of snorting powdered alcohol will clearly not be a deterrent for many. And for those who are already suffering from alcoholism, how many will die as a result of lacking portion control, just so they can calm a craving?

Getting A Buzz From Alcohol

There have been multiple ways people have been trying to get their buzz on from alcohol. Earlier this year, smoking alcohol gained popularity among college students and even broadcasted on Youtube. Now, with the introduction of powdered alcohol, who knows what tragedies are going to take place. As frightening as this all may be to those who have seen the devastation that alcohol abuse has caused our nation, powdered alcohol, or this magical booze dust, may become as about as popular as vodka infused tampons, eyeballing shots, or injecting booze.  In the meantime, it is important to help raise awareness and talk to your kids about the dangers of alcohol abuse and alcoholism, so that they can make educated decisions when it comes to liquor consumptions and their bodies.
