Treating Postpartum Depression

How cool is that? And no, we don’t mean it’s cool that she is suffering from postpartum depression, we mean it’s cool that she is breaking through the stigma of depression and taking action towards treating it. The more people who feel comfortable about coming forward with their mental health issues, the better chance they have at fully recovering. We are grateful to hear that the Hollywood starlet, Hayden Panettiere, is taking that first step. Hopefully this helps continue to pave the way for others to seek help and change the way we look at mental health.

Hayden Panettiere Breaks The Stigma Of Mental Health Issues

Hayden Panettiere, and her fiancé Wladimir Klitschko, gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Kaya, last December. Kaya was born just one day after Christmas, and although the best gift, Panettiere started to develop postpartum depression and has battled with it ever since. Panettiere finally opened up in September about her mental health issue and expressed that there are a lot of misinterpretations about the illness and it needs to be discussed more openly.

“There’s a lot of people out there that think it’s not real, that’s it not true, that it’s something that’s made up in their minds, that ‘Oh, it’s hormones,'” she stated during an appearance on Live With Kelly and Michael.

Addressing mental health issues, like postpartum depression, and seeking professional help is the first defense against suicide, drug abuse, and alcoholism. Anytime a mental health issues goes undiagnosed, there will be a potential of the sufferer to attempt to medicate and fix the problem on their own. One of the greatest misconceptions out there about depression is that it will just go away on its own if you try to be happy and give it time. But if someone is truly struggling with clinical depression, that “happy” day may never come on its own. Getting professional help is the best way to combat clinical depression and will allow those suffering to get back on track to living normal, productive and healthy lives.
