Comedian John Pinette Died Clean & Sober At 50

Comedian John Pinette, 50, passed away from a pulmonary embolism Saturday, April 4, 2014 in a Pittsburgh hotel. An autopsy will not be conducted as per his personal doctor.  The medical examiner’s spokesperson stated that his death is ruled as natural causes and stemmed from a pre-existing medical history.

Comedian John Pinette Was In Recovery

Pinette is best known for his role in Revenge Of The Nerds III and IV,  and his most famous role as the carjacking victim (Howie) in the 1998 series finale of the ever popular “Seinfeld”. Comedian John Pinette trolled the comedy club circuit for over 20 years, and also carried a deep dark secret – drug addiction. Pinette was very private about his recovery process, but his Manager, Larry Schapiro, stated that Pinette was clean and sober at the end of his life. However, it did appear that his past drug abuse had already done some long-term damage to his body.

Most fans know comedian John Pinette was a heavy set man, weighing in at whopping 450 pounds. Although, in the past two years, he had quickly dropped down to an astonishing 250 pounds. Pinette apparently didn’t give himself enough time to rest after some weight-loss surgeries, and told his fans three months ago that he needed a break and was “physically spent.”

Pinette had a reputation among fans, friends, and loved ones as an intelligent, kind, funny, and giving man. “He couldn’t walk past a homeless person without giving them a $20,” Schapiro stated. “He would say, ‘There but for the grace of God go I.’ ”

Famous Addicts Who Suffer Alone

Once again another famous celebrity paid the ultimate price of addiction. What actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, comedian John Pinette, and so many others have taught us, is that addiction does not care who or what you are, it wants you dead. Even if Pinette did not die as a direct result of use, his body was affected greatly from the trials and tribulations that drug addiction has to offer. It’s only through awareness and action that we can make difference in how addiction is treated.

Whether you are young or old, rich or poor, it does not matter –  drug addiction will kill you. The only thing you will not know is when, how, or where. We here at The Watershed have helped thousands upon thousands recover from this seemingly hopeless state of body and mind, and we can help you recover too.
