Be Honest with Your Sober Supports

Getting honest about what you are feeling with a sober support can be a great way to handle your drug cravings. A sober support can provide you with the one-on-one support you need. It’s tough when you have to leave everything bottled up in your head, which is why it’s a great idea to seek counsel from someone you trust. It can even provide relief to know that somebody understands what you are going through or can be there with you to make you feel better when you are feeling distraught.

Distract Yourself

Engaging in your favorite pastime, spending time with friends, watching a movie ,or playing a sport are great examples of ways to distract yourself when you are experiencing drug cravings. The reality is that even though a craving for drugs may feel strong, it will pass. Distracting yourself with activities can be a good idea because time will begin to pass and the idea of using drugs may not even be on your mind anymore.

Go to a Meeting or Support Group

Another great way to surround yourself with encouragement and support is by going to a 12-Step Fellowship meeting or support group. These environments are safe places where you can express the trouble you are feeling and receive helpful feedback that is pertinent to your situation.

If you are feeling anxious and want to turn back to drugs, try to find a different coping mechanism that can make you feel great but naturally, like working out or running. Engaging in physical activity can get your blood pumping and release hormones like endorphins that make you feel good. It’s a great way to reduce anxiety and alleviate mild depression.
